Foods to Avoid if You Don’t Want to Stain Your Teeth

Everyone wants a healthy, bright smile. You can whiten your teeth through a variety of methods, but when you work so hard to achieve those pearly whites, why eat and drink foods that can detract from your efforts? There are a bunch of food items that you should avoid if you don’t want to stain your teeth.

Tea

While tea is an overall healthy drink for your body, it’s not healthy for your teeth. Dentists have warned that certain brews of tea, particularly basic black brews, can stain your teeth even more that coffee does. Herbal teas can also wear down your enamel and allow for stains.

Sports Drinks

These are simply not friends to your teeth. Aside from having tons of cavity-causing sugar in them, sports drinks erode your enamel, setting the stage for stains to occur. When you need to rehydrate after a workout, opt for water instead.

Wine

Say it ain’t so! Oh, but it is. Just like red wine can stain a white tablecloth, it can stain your white teeth. Ok, so maybe just stick to white wine then? We’re sorry to say that white wine can be even more acidic than red, and can also lead to discolored teeth.

Fruits and Berries

Blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, and other vibrantly-colored fruits can stain your teeth, as can juices made from them. Lighter-colored fruits don’t stain your teeth as much, but they still have acid that can weaken your enamel.

If you’re looking to avoid foods that stain your teeth, use this rule of thumb: if it can stain a white lab coat, it can stain your teeth. You can’t avoid all foods though, so consider having your teeth professionally whitened with Zoom! Whitening. Zoom! can whiten your teeth several shades lighter in just one session.
