Holiday Treats Can’t Be Absent During This Season of Joy, But

With the holidays fast approaching, so comes the season for holiday goodies like sugar cookies, fudge, peanut brittle, glazed pecans – and these are just a few of my family’s favorite treats! Yes, and with the holidays just up ahead, we must ask: When was the last time you came in to see us? And, if you saw us recently, and a treatment plan was presented for you, did you possibly decide to put it off for a while? And now (you may possibly be thinking), “It’s the holidays and I have no time, and after all, everything is feeling just fine.” Let me give you a scenario: Perhaps you’re busy with the holidays and you’re getting into the spirit of things, having fun, running from work to the grocery with your “honey do” list, just to rush home to make sure you have everything for that next party. And, perhaps, you are sampling some of those yummy treats you’ve looked forward to all year, and you bite into one of those delicious crunchy things and, lo and behold, a tooth breaks! This traditionally happens at the worst possible moment – in our busiest season of the year. And if it does happen, our holiday fun is not quite so fun. You have a jagged tooth that is cutting into your tongue, or, worse, you’re now in some pain. And the pain makes you not so fun to be around, and just maybe you don’t want to be around anybody else… So now – just a scenario, of course – you end up focusing on this broken tooth instead of having a wonderful time with your family and friends! Next thing you know you’re thinking, “When on earth am I going to find the time to see my dentist to fix this tooth? There’s work to do and projects at home, there’s gifts to wrap, people to visit, the house to be readied…” Yes, all of that to do for the holiday season. Furthermore, you likely have out of town family to visit, office holiday parties to attend, children’s activities which are so fun and cute. You have to do all of those things that make the holidays so amazing, but oh, so busy. And here you are, needing to fit in yet another appointment during this crazy schedule. And if you’re one of the 55% of the population that carries dental insurance, you have a policy to help you with the upcoming cost of fixing your tooth, except that most insurance companies have an annual maximum benefit limit, and if you don’t use it, you lose it at the end of each year. So, please remember as you launch your holiday season, the old adage that “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”! We’d love to see you! To schedule your appointment please call our team at Dr. Ronald A. Murphy, (630) 879-7642.

Happy Holidays To You From All Of Us!
Best,
Ronald A. Murphy, DMD

FUN FACTS FOR DECEMBER

- Saint Nicholas, whose name would eventually become “Santa Claus”, was originally the patron saint of children, thieves and pawnbrokers!
-December 28th is considered by some to be the unluckiest day of the year.
-An almanac prediction states that if snow falls on Christmas Day, Easter will be warm, green and sunny.
-The first artificial Christmas tree was made in Germany, fashioned out of goose feathers that were dyed green!

AS WE APPROACH THE NEW YEAR…

If you have dental insurance, did you know that any coverage you have left for the current year disappears after December 31st of this year if it hasn’t been used? That’s right! For example, let’s say you have $500 available for the rest of the current year. If you don’t use this by December 31st, your insurance plan wipes out the $500 forever! You lose it! Call us and we will tell you if you have remaining dental benefits and how much is available. If you do have remaining coverage, you can use that for a nice holiday cleaning or a filling, or toward any other dental service or procedure you would like or need. We are motivated and excited to see you soon!
