Cosmetic Dentistry

With cosmetic dentistry, you can finally have the smile you have always dreamed about. For some people, this wish began when they were young. Perhaps they suffered from crooked teeth that never got corrected. Or maybe their teeth were different shapes or lengths, or had gaps between them.

For other people, the need for cosmetic dentistry came later, after decay or other problems had taken its toll on their smiles. The reason your smile doesn’t please you is not important—what is important is that we have the skills and the technology to give you a bright, new smile. Very often, this transformation doesn’t even have to take a very long time. You can flash a brilliant new smile in just a matter of weeks.

Here are the different methods we can use to help you achieve your dream smile.

Dental Veneers

Porcelain dental veneers are remarkably tough and beautiful to look at as well. These thin porcelain shells are custom-shaped to your needs so they fit over the front and tip of the teeth to be corrected. They can correct a situation where the teeth are different shapes or lengths. They can fill in gaps between teeth. If teeth are too deeply stained to respond to whitening, they offer a shiny new face for those teeth.

If a bit of tooth chips off in an accident, veneers offer a fast solution. And even moderate misalignment can be corrected in just weeks—not years—with veneers. Ask us if you could be a candidate for dental veneers.

Zoom! Teeth Whitening

The Zoom! Teach Whitening system offers a dramatic change in a single one-hour-long office visit. After we protect your gums, we will apply the whitening gel to your teeth and shine a special light on your teeth that activates the whitening power of the gel. Then we’ll wash this gel off your teeth and repeat the process one or more times, until we have maximized the improvement.

Then you might choose to take the at-home Zoom! kit with you to maintain the shine with regular treatments. Alternatively, this at-home kit is the right choice for some individuals who prefer not to utilize the treatment in our office.

The important first step in offering teeth whitening is first examining your teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy. If any problems, such as cavities or tooth sensitivity, are not eliminated first, teeth whitening may aggravate these problems. That’s why visiting our office for teeth whitening is so important.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a fast, simple service that can repair a number of functional or cosmetic problems Have you chipped a front tooth? Dental bonding uses tooth-colored composite resin to repair a problem like this. Dr. Murphy will first carefully mix the dental bonding material to match your adjacent teeth and then shape this material to fill in the chip.

Likewise, dental bonding material can be used to lengthen teeth, fill in gaps between the teeth, make teeth appear longer or repair minor fractures. In just one office visit for many of these unsightly problems, they can be gone for good.

Dr. Murphy’s hundreds of hours of continuing education and more than a dozen years of experience enable him to approach cosmetic dentistry with an understanding of the aesthetics involved. When he uses cosmetic dentistry to improve your appearance, he does it with a sensitivity for your desires and his own aesthetic sense. You benefit from his education and skill.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Our patients tell us that they don’t like dark fillings in their teeth anymore. As these fillings age, they get darker and can even darken areas of the teeth which are visible when you smile.

Tooth-colored fillings use the same versatile material as dental bonding, so they can easily be matched to the natural color of your teeth. Tooth-colored fillings will look so natural that you probably won’t even be able to tell where they are after they are done. This is a great advancement for our patients who never liked to show off a mouthful of dark fillings when they laughed.

The other advantage of these fillings is that they preserve more of your natural tooth. When a tooth was filled with the original metal fillings, those fillings had to be secured in the opening that was drilled out as the cavity was removed. Because that metal could not actually bond directly to your tooth tissue, that opening had to be deeper and bigger to encase the metal filling enough so that it would remain in place.

The composite resin material used for tooth-colored fillings does bond to your tooth tissue, meaning a better fit and less drilling needed. That aspect of tooth-colored fillings aligns with our desire to preserve as much of your tooth tissue and as many of your teeth as possible.
