Proper Dental Habits for Young Children

Pediatric oral care takes place in two locations: the dentist’s office and at home. Infant and toddler cavities caused by juice, snacks, and bottle decay can be combated with good oral hygiene and preventive care.

Starting at twelve months – or the emergence of the first tooth – the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that children visit the dentist for “well baby” checkups. This not only ensures that your baby’s dental health is monitored from the beginning, but begins a lifelong familiarity with going to the dentist.

At home, make sure your child gently brushes his or her teeth twice a day. Pacifiers and thumb sucking should be discouraged, as they can lead to misaligned teeth that will require braces to correct.

Together we can make sure your child starts off his or her dental health on the right, toddling foot! Call us today to make your baby’s first appointment.
